Sustainable Construction Services
Green building, also known as sustainable or high-performance building, is the practice of creating structures and using processes that are environmentally responsible. These projects are also resource-efficient throughout a building’s life cycle–from siting to design, construction, operation, maintenance, renovation and deconstruction.
Our Approach to Sustainable Building
The green building practice expands and complements the classical building design concerns of economy, utility, durability and comfort. Green buildings are designed to reduce the overall impact of the build on both human health and the natural environment by:
- Efficiently using energy, water and other resources
- Protecting occupant health and improving employee productivity
- Incorporating sustainable materials that are reused, recycled or made from renewable resources
- Reducing waste, pollution and environmental degradation
- Minimizing indoor pollutants through reduced product emissions
- Reducing water usage through landscaping and using native, low-water plants
Featured Project
City of Holland – Waverly Fire Station
GDK worked closely with the design team and the actual Fire Fighters that use the building to ensure all areas were reviewed for function and costs. The result was a state-of-the-art facility that did not compromise on aesthetics or function and still came in within the budget that was pre-determined.
