The River Place – Geenen DeKock Properties
Geenen DeKock Properties is GDK Construction’s sister company. A real estate and development company.
River Place by Resthaven is a senior living community located in Holland, Michigan. Resthaven is a non-profit organization that has been providing care and support for older adults in the Holland area for over 75 years. They offer a range of services, including independent living, assisted living, memory care, and skilled nursing care. River Place is one of their senior living communities and is designed to meet the unique needs of older adults. It provides a comfortable and engaging living environment where residents can maintain their independence while receiving the necessary support and care. The community likely offers various amenities and services to promote an active and fulfilling lifestyle for its residents. These may include dining options, social and recreational activities, wellness programs, and access to healthcare professionals.
Resthaven knew that they needed the right partner for this new venture. They assessed the compatibility and alignment of values and goals between their organization and GDK Construction. A strong cultural fit, shared commitment to quality, and a collaborative approach played a significant role in Resthaven’s decision to choose GDK as their construction partner. Resthaven sought a construction and development partner capable of transforming their vision for a vibrant 55+ age community into reality within the bustling downtown area of Holland. They saw this as the perfect opportunity to create a new living facility by having GDK take care of all the details for them.
The project site is situated within a downtown/urban area, presenting specific challenges and constraints. These included tight lot lines, limited space for laydown and preparation areas, and potentially restricted access. Overcoming these site constraints required careful planning and innovative solutions to optimize the use of available space.
GDK Construction’s dual role as the owner and construction manager in the project provided numerous advantages. Their unique position allowed for convenient communication, efficient approvals, and streamlined finish selection. Being just a half-block away from the project site, GDK Construction enjoyed enhanced accessibility and oversight, enabling prompt decision-making and effective project management. This integrated approach facilitated smooth collaboration, minimized delays, and contributed to the overall success of the project.
The project incorporated architectural and design elements that pay homage to the original Brouwer Furniture Building, which previously occupied the same location. By integrating architectural elements that honor the building’s history and addressing the unique site constraints of a downtown/urban location, the project created a distinctive and harmonious environment that blends the past with the present.
