Village of Spring Lake – Tanglefoot Park
Since its thoughtful platting on March 4th 1869, the Village of Spring Lake has offered a unique and cherished living experience. This small, close-knit community enjoys the best of both worlds, situated just minutes away from Grand Haven, Holland, Muskegon, and Grand Rapids.
Nestled on a captivating peninsula, the Village finds itself gracefully embraced by the tranquil waters of Spring Lake and the Grand River. A haven for water enthusiasts, the Village offers numerous public access points, from a municipal boat launch to canoe and kayak launches. For those seeking relaxation, a sandy beach awaits, complete with restrooms and a vigilant lifeguard. And for fishing enthusiasts, there are dedicated fishing platforms, making it a place of serenity and joy for all who call it home.
Client Needs
After building a relationship with the Village of Spring Lake while working on several private construction projects, the Village came to GDK with an opportunity to build one of the largest community projects they had ever undertaken. As part of the RFP, GDK created a design team focused on the needs of the Village. GDK along with the design team was selected based on price and vision that was created and presented to the Village of Spring Lake.
Tanglefoot Park holds a rich history, as the land was generously gifted to the Village by the Thum family during the early 1900s. The Thum family’s prosperity stemmed from their renowned company, Tanglefoot Flypaper. Now, thanks to the collective efforts of local residents and numerous grants, this ambitious multi-year, multi-million dollar project has become a reality, transforming the park into a cherished community asset.
