Holland Ice Park

Through the Community Foundation of the Holland/Zeeland Area, the City of Holland received a generous $1 million donation from retired educator Frank Kraai, whose lifelong dream has been to bring an ice skating facility to the community and share the joy of skating with all.

After exploring potential locations and concepts since 1997—including efforts outlined in the 2019 Parks and Recreation Master Plan—the City identified Window on the Waterfront Park as the ideal site. To honor Frank’s gift, the City engaged the public through a design workshop, culminating in the presentation of a preliminary concept at a May 2, 2022, open house at City Hall.

Project Solution

Holland Ice Park is located at Window on the Waterfront Park on 6th Street near College Avenue. The park features an ice rink with a connected skating ribbon, a separate curling rink, skate rentals, concessions, and restrooms. A heated plaza with snowmelt and three fireplaces provides a welcoming gathering space, while in the summer the area is programmed by the City’s Recreation Department.
